God's Heart vs Man's Heart
The past couple of weeks has been hard on the emotions for this old white guy. I have discovered that going on social media can be very dangerous if you do not "totally" agree with the masses that are BLM and their old and new followers. Racism has come to the forefront of everyone's conversations and that is good, except where it is not. Let me try to explain.
Here in Toronto, over the past two months, citizens captured 3 separate confrontations on their cell phones between emotionally disturbed black men and cops. At the time most people were saying how well our cops handled the situations. One had a guy running after someone with a machete (in our division where I am chaplain); the second had a black man throwing rocks and smashing the windows of a police cruiser and eventually trying to strike the female cop with the same rock; the third was just north of the city when a black man approached a cop sitting in his vehicle and attacked him, continuing to do so by stomping on his head a few times. All the cops remained calm and nobody was seriously injured, let alone killed. Absolutely nobody in Toronto is reminding us of these cases because they don't fit into the narrative so many are promoting: "all cops are racists". Don't even try to tell me that this is not the message!
So I sat down and considered all this and came to the conclusion that man is sinful just as the Bible teaches us. No exceptions: in fact we are all sinners!
This is the problem we face not only today but since Adam and Eve. I just lost half of you because you will insist I am forcing my beliefs on others. Such is the face of hypocrisy! You see it is far easier to point fingers at a handful of racist cops than it is to point the fingers at ourselves. Society has always had and will continue to have the issue of racism. That is because so many of us don't believe the scripture verse that tells us, "we are all created in the image of God". The moment you think you are better than someone else, you are just as racist or worse, than that Minneapolis police officer.
For a book that so many call outdated, myths, man-made and worse, there is tremendous wisdom. You can start with the 10 Commandments for wisdom. You can finish with the forgiveness God offers through Jesus Christ. It is actually amazing how deliberately man has trampled on God's ways and then wondered why we are such a mess.
You can defund our police and create programs and reeducate cops all you want but the problem is one that starts and stops in the hearts of men and women. Until we start to look at one another as God's creation and His children, we will never get it right. That is my take on things but more importantly, I think it is God's heart.
