When Is Too Much Still Not Enough?
We all know the line: you sound like a broken record. As I get older there is always the danger of me repeating myself unintentionally and having friends pretend they are hearing it for the first time. I realize I am close to that place already today and it is why I always hesitate to bring up the issue I am bringing again today. I do so however, after listening to 3 cops of various rank, all listing off resources to help our Toronto cops who are struggling with personal issues. Guess what resource was forgotten by each one?
As I was listening I was actually trying to get the men being interviewed to say the word from behind my computer. How hard could it be to say that one resource that every division at TPS has? I was waiting but the word never escaped their lips. Pretty well every other resource was mentioned but not the one I have talked about over and over again in my blogs.
I am also not going to use the word because I want you to figure it out yourself. This resource would help officers and family members who are feeling lost, stressed, angered, fearful, suicidal and so on and so on. This resource would have years of experience dealing with hurting people. They would have officiated at numerous funerals and weddings. They even wear police uniforms when they go out on ride alongs on the city streets of Toronto.
Any guesses yet? Somehow we are not qualified despite more experience in dealing with other humans than probably any other resource. Let me know if you figure it out and if you do, tell your bosses.
