Enough

Most of you know that I am a Chaplain with the Toronto Police Service. I write this as a friend of the policing community in Canada because I am totally disgusted with what is happening in our society. It has become fashionable to criticize our police. Politicians and special interest groups who scream the racist card every chance they get, lead the parade of haters.

In Canada, we just had the forth officer die in the line of duty in the last month. We don't have enough details of the RCMP officer's murder in Burnaby, but the previous three were all ambushes where the officers never had the opportunity to defend themselves. Certain politicians who seldom praise our men and women in blue, send their condolences as if it makes up for their demand for defunding the police.

I am going to use my words in this blog because if our cops were allowed to say what they are thinking, many would get in trouble. These men and women who put on their uniforms and race to dangerous situations while others are running away, are heroes but are only seen as that when they pay the ultimate price for that bravery.

I was out on a ride along Sunday night and for the first time since 2002, putting on the uniform actually caused me to pause for a second. After all, PC Andrew Hong was shot from behind by a person who had been waiting for a uniformed cop for over 2 hours at a Tim Hortons. Why should any cop be alert for a potential murderer in a coffee shop? That is now our Canada and our US.

Cries for "defund the police" have died down but when this news cycle finishes, the same quacks will be out in full force and politicians and media will give them as much air time as they want. In Toronto, many of our City leaders insist we have too many cops on the street. Yup, the same ones who pretend like they care about these police deaths. One more thing...someone shot at cops last night but this time nobody was killed.
