Looking Ahead to 2024

The past year was full of new adventures and it's share of ups and downs. One thing that remained constant, was God's unfailing love.  After 69 years on this planet one would hope that a few things have been learned and stored in the memory bank for future use. We are part of a wonderful church in Calgary with some precious folks we are still getting to know. Being "retired" has been OK because I get to still do certain things, without getting paid for it.

The Warming Centre at our church, serves the homeless community and occasionally Kristina and I have helped out, including making my potato/cheddar cheese/leak/bacon soup. Except for the bacon bits, it is creamery mixture that seems to be a hit. I have helped out at ALPHA and taught new police chaplain recruits in Ukraine via Zoom on occasion. I continue in my role as Registrar for the Canadian Police Chaplain Association as we continue to provide training to members and even those looking in from other agencies. Police chaplaincy is taking a break after several months with our local RCMP detachment.

As 2024 dawns, my expectation is that this will be a year with even more adventures. My autobiography is being published as I write this and hopefully those interested can find it online shortly as well. The marketing team will be sending out info on all that, including the name of a few stores and libraries where it will be available in paperback. I should warn you now, that the book does not pull any punches about the Christian community and Christian leaders: the really good and the really bad. It is all about my personal experiences while in leadership and as a church member.

I am saddened by the ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East. Most of you who know me will have no difficulty figuring out where I stand with my support. It highlights the evil that is in the world today but also the enemy called political correctness. So many in today's media and some politicians, are so busy trying not offend anyone that any backbone they might have had, disappeared a long time ago. I truly fear for our children and grandchildren when I look forward to the future of the country we call home. It is a beautifully scenic country as we have discovered living in Alberta and yet it is becoming more and more secular each year. I know that some of you think that is a good thing.

Many around us are battling with failing health, depression, addiction, anxiety, and other mental health issues. For some reason the spiritual well-being of individuals is often way down the list of priorities when discussing wellness. If you suspect someone you know is struggling, reach out and show some love and help them get the care they need.

Happy New Year!
