RACISM FROM MY POINT OF VIEW
I am a white man and perhaps that makes me privileged although in all honesty I do not even know how to gauge that. Regardless, this blog is not about me but it is about the entire human race.
A question that I have had since the beginning (this time around) of the Black Lives Matter protests and violence and in some places, false narrative concerning our police in Toronto, is what people actually think the solution is. If people really think racism is going to go away because of classroom time or training for our cops, we are truly living in a dream world.
In the Old Testament, the actual problem comes to light for anyone willing to admit it. Jeremiah 17:9 says, “The human heart is the most deceitful of all things, and desperately wicked. Who really knows how bad it is?
Racism and bigotry is not just a policing problem in the US and beyond. It is an issue all over the world and has always been. This is in no way an attempt to downplay the pain being felt in the Black community. However, at this point all that is being accomplished in my opinion, is that the divide between Black and White is increasing and not decreasing. The police are being thrown under the bus by politicians, media and even police management in some cases. An example of this is on tonight's TV where media goes to the family of a young woman who fell to her death several months ago, hoping that they would be enraged because the cops on scene were found not guilty of any wrongdoing. The mother originally accused the cops of pushing her daughter off the balcony and no apology ever came for that lie. Sorry, but that is what it was and the media desperately wants more of the same: and they are getting it.
This again highlights the human heart and how utterly evil it can be. Going back to my original question however and I see no answers in the media, politicians, BLM, pro athletes (aside from boycotting games) and all the privileged young White kids who now want to sound like defenders of the Black community. The world is becoming a circus and the the obvious answer from the word of God, even from Christians who should no better, is ignored for the sake of venting anger toward cops. Shame on you!
Jesus once told a man to take the plank out of his own eye before judging someone for the splinter in theirs. Racism and the idea of "we are better than them" has been around forever. My anger comes from the efforts of so many people to make it about cops. Don't kid yourself, that is exactly what is happening. It started with the football player kneeling during the national anthem and it is continuing with the basketball players boycotting.
Change. I keep hearing that things need to change. Most of those demanding change support violence and civil disobedience because it gets the attention of the world. Then what? Does anyone have a plan. They have an answer for that too. We don't need a plan right now because it is all about being seen and heard. My guess is that people right now could go around killing cops in every US city and BLM and others would applaud it. It's already happening by the way but our media does not have the courage to report it as a major story.
Is this the way it is going to be? Instead of sitting down and acknowledging that man is basically wicked and that we need God to step in, we will continue to listen to the haters and liars who want what exactly? You see, they can't tell you what they want. You don't want peace and equality. You don't want to love your neighbour. You want to destroy them so you will feel better.
Racism, bigotry and hatred have been with us since the beginning of time. Talk to a Jew if you are not sure what I mean. I still remember how Italians were treated back in the 1950's and 1960's as new immigrants in Toronto. Sure, their skin colour was the same as the majority but they were looked down on in many circles.
My solution is not a popular one for many because it involves God. The one who created each and every one of us and according to the Bible, did so in His image. I will be interested in seeing what the Black community sees as a next step. All those mothers and grandmothers who are God-fearing need to speak up because a White dude isn't going to do it. We need to learn to love one another and right now that is the furthest thing from most of our minds. We have a long way to go my friends.
